RECIPES OF SOME DETOX WATER

1. TRADITIONAL ENERGY DRINK RECIPE: KHARJURADI MANTHA

INGREDIENTS: 

(Measurements for 400 ml)

  1. 30 grams of Seedless Grapes 
  2. 20 grams of Soft Dates (deseeded)
  3. 15 grams or 3 teaspoons of  Roasted Puffed Paddy
  4. 10 grams of  Jaggery
  5. 300 ml Cold Water

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Blend all of the ingredients together in a mixer grinder, add cold water and stir. For better results, soak all ingredients an hour ahead of time in sufficient amounts of water. 




BENEFITS:

This is an excellent drink for those with bad digestive health and can counter fatigue and dehydration. Rich in electrolytes, iron, Vitamin B6, and fibre, it’s an excellent energy source and body coolant. It is also gluten-free hence safe to consume for those with Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance. Its high fibre content also makes it great to counter any digestive issues.

2. AMALAKI PANAKA (INDIAN GOOSEBERRY DRINK)

Panaka is a traditional health drink with natural ingredients. Panaka can be prepared with nutritional fruits or roots and diluted with boiled, cooled water with sugar, jaggery, salt, and honey as required.

INGREDIENTS:

(Measurements for 6- 7 glasses or 1- 1.2 litres) 

  1. ½ kg of Amalaki, Indian Gooseberry
  2. 1 kg Tala/ Khajuda Gur or Sugar
  3. 5 gms of dry Ginger powder
  4. 5 gms of finely powdered Cardamom
  5. Honey as needed

INSTRUCTIONS:

Start by steam cooking the gooseberries, de-seed them, grind them into a paste and extract the juice by passing it through a sieve. After adding a bit more water (300 ml), the pulp can again be squeezed to get more juice. Palm sugar can be made into syrup by boiling in 200 ml water. Sugar or jaggery can be used as alternatives to Palm Sugar. Mix it with the prepared gooseberry juice and stir the solution well. The Panaka is ready.

BENEFITS:

It can be used as a healthy soft drink as it acts as an immediate energy supplement. It is a rich source of calcium, potassium, vitamin C, B complex and antioxidants. It is good for osteoarthritis, atherosclerosis, anaemia, peptic ulcer, urinary tract infection, dysentery and high blood pressure.

CONTRADICTIONS

Chances of Diabetes mellitus as it contains sugar/jaggery/honey.

3. AMLA SQUASH

INGREDIENTS:

(Measurements for 3 litres)

  1. 1kg of Indian Gooseberry (Amla) pulp
  2. 2 kgs of candy sugar (Mishri)
  3. 10 gms of rock salt
  4. 10 gms of roasted cumin powder
  5. 5 gms of Black Pepper powder
  6. 5 gms of Black Salt
  7. 1 litre of water

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Boil amla and de-seed it and keep it aside until it cools completely. Once cool, make it into a pulp by grinding. In a large vessel, take sugar, and add an equal quantity of water, heat it so that sugar dissolves completely. Sugar syrup should be made double or 2.5 times the quantity of Amla Pulp. Pour the pulp into a big vessel, slowly add the sugar syrup and mix it well. When the pulp and syrup are properly mixed, take a little bit of the mixture in a small bowl to incorporate the spices. Add roasted jeera powder, rock salt, black pepper and black salt. Mix the contents of both bowls well and store them in a glass jar. If you store it in the fridge then you will not need to use preservatives. Alternatively, you can add 0.75 gm of Potassium metabisulfite for every one kilo of product.

 

BENEFITS:

Amla is an excellent source of Vitamin C, hence it helps to boost immunity, metabolism and prevents infections, including cold and cough. This cooling drink is useful in acid peptic disorders, constipation, anaemia and eye strain.

4. KHALAM (MEDICATED BUTTERMILK)

INGREDIENTS:

(measurements for one glass of Buttermilk)

  1. One small piece of Ginger
  2. 2 cups of Buttermilk
  3. 2 pinches of Asafoetida
  4. 2 pinches of Turmeric
  5. Rock Salt as per taste
  6. 2 pinches of Pepper

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Make a paste out of ginger. Add the Ginger paste to boiling buttermilk and boil further for a minute. Add powdered asafoetida, rock salt and pepper. The Khalam is ready.

 

BENEFITS:

It is an appetizer and beneficial during recovery from illnesses. Useful during cold, cough, digestive problems or any other health problem.

 

PRECAUTIONS:

Buttermilk may cause allergic reactions in some people with lactose intolerance.

5. KULATTHA RASAM (HORSE GRAM RASAM)

INGREDIENTS: 

(measurements of 2-3 bowls or 300- 400 ml)

  1. 2 cups or 60 grams of Horse Gram
  2. 1 spoon or 20 grams of lemon juice or tamarind
  3. 1 chopped tomato
  4. 5 grams or 5-6 curry leaves
  5. 2 teaspoons of Garlic Paste
  6. 2 teaspoons of Pepper-Cumin seeds paste
  7. 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Cooking oil as required to season (5 ml)

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Wash and soak Horse Gram for 4 hours. Boil the Horse Gram and drain and reserve the substrate. Heat 1 teaspoon of oil/ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chillies, allow to splutter. Add chopped tomatoes and sauté till they are soft. Add 2 teaspoons of garlic paste and sauté till the raw smell goes away. Add tamarind and salt and boil. Jaggery, black pepper, cumin seeds, lemon juice, curry leaves are optional. Add horse gram substrate. Boil the mixture on the stovetop till it has cooked. Once cooked, remove it from the flame and mash well. Serve hot.
